Experience
In business since 1987, as a freelance translator and interpreter
for a number of translation agencies in the US, Canada and Europe as
well as direct clients such as the federal and provincial governments
in Canada, law firms, Canadian Broadcasting Corporation,
PriceWaterhouse-Coopers, Verbund (a major power utility company), Magna
International, etc.English and German teacher at Hansa Language Centre in Toronto
(1997-2000).
I also tutored students at the University of Vienna,
Austria, in English, German and German/English translation.I did the English voice-over and translation for a daily German
newscast for CBC International for two years (now: Current, the new
current-affairs channel run by Al Gore). I did a number of voice-overs, English and German, for corporate
videos as well as TV & radio commercials (e.g., TV & radio
commercials for a new album by Rammstein for Canadian TV and radio).
I was also the interpreter for one of the members of Rammstein for interviews on MuchMusic (the Canadian version of MTV), Canadian radio and magazines.Interpreting at the International Alpbach Forum, an annual international conference in Austria specializing in science, medicine, economics and politics. I interpreted for various European heads of state and government (Austrian government; German ministers and government officials; Vaclav Klaus from the Czech Republic; Thabo Mbeki (now the President of South Africa); Al Gore, etc.).While a student at the Univ. of Vienna, I would do translations for corporations (Philips Electronics), the RCMP (the “Mounties”), etc. and work as an interpreter at various international conferences (e.g., UN in Vienna, such as a meeting on space debris, Amway, etc.).
For about two to three years in Toronto, I used to work as a freelance proofreader/editor for Bowne, a printer specializing in financial documents and IPO documentation. This task also required me to be trained on their own in-house computer systems. I am a fast learner: picking up new tasks and skills is relatively easy for me.During my last two years at university, I served as a student representative on various faculty boards of the School of Translators and Interpreters.
In the mid-1990s, I served on the Executive Board of the Austrian Translators’ Association.Examples of previous projects:
